We ran small businesses before we did SEO for them
Get Your Website Seen is Simon and Lisa Batchelor. You deal with us directly. No account managers, nothing outsourced, nobody learning the job on your account. Between us we have built and sold three businesses, which is most of why this site reads the way it does.
You deal with the people doing the work
When you email, one of us answers. When something changes on your site, one of us did it. There is no account manager relaying your questions to somebody you never meet, no ticket system, and no content quietly sent out to a freelancer or a mill.
That is the whole model. It is also the honest reason our reports are shorter than most agencies’ — nobody here needs to justify a layer of staff you are paying for but never speak to.
Three businesses built, three businesses sold
- Commerce Computers Ltd, 2000 to 2003A trade computer components supplier in Shropshire, trading online as shop4it.co.uk. The storefront ran on ASP and pulled live stock from a CRM system built in Magic, which in 2000 was not a common thing for a small business to have. We held position 1 on Google for “trade computer components” and “trade computer parts”. Worth being precise about what that meant: Google then had one index and one set of results, with no localisation and no personalisation, so position 1 was position 1 for everybody who searched it. That is not the same achievement as ranking first today and we would not pretend otherwise. Sold in July 2003.
- Costa Tropical NewsWe moved to Spain and launched the first full-colour English-language magazine in the region. Simon was owner and editor for ten years. Most of the advertisers were Spanish businesses, and the display pages carried Jet2, Renault and Seiko. Sold to a local entrepreneur.
- A restaurant on the Costa TropicalA restaurant in a Spanish seaside resort, run alongside the magazine for several years. We competed for Spanish custom rather than trading on the expat market, and held top position on TripAdvisor and the main booking aggregators for most of a decade. Sold after Covid.
We have been the client
We have made payroll. We have had the quiet month where the phone stops and you start doing arithmetic you would rather not do. We have paid for marketing that did nothing and only worked out later why.
So when we look at your website we are not only looking at keywords and crawl errors. We ask which of your services actually make money, which customers are worth chasing, and whether you could even handle more work this month or whether we should pace it. Ranking for something you cannot service is a waste of everyone’s time.
The magazine years are the other half of it. Ten years of editing copy that somebody else wrote is a fast way to learn what makes writing worth reading, and it is why the content we produce for clients gets read by a person before it goes anywhere near a website.
Spain, working with UK businesses
We live on the Costa Tropical in Andalucía and work exclusively with UK small businesses. We keep a UK base and a UK number, and everything we write is written in British English by someone who grew up speaking it. If that arrangement matters to you, ask and we will talk it through.
One practical consequence worth being straight about, because it is often oversold:
- There is no UK VAT on our invoicesWe invoice from Spain, where we are registered for IVA.
- If you are not VAT-registered, that is a real savingYou would have paid 20% on top to a UK agency and never got it back. Here you do not.
- If you are VAT-registered, it makes no differenceYou would have reclaimed the VAT anyway. Some people present this as a universal discount. It is not, and we would rather tell you than let you work it out later.
What the work looks like
Paramount Space Cleaning in Coventry came to us in October 2025 with no search visibility at all. They now hold position one for “deep cleaning coventry”, have 55 keywords on page one, and traced a £7,000 commercial contract back to organic search.
The caveat we attach to everything: that is one business, in one city, over seven months, in a competitive but not brutal sector. It is not a forecast for anyone else. Nora approved every figure before we published it, which is true of every number on this site.
Start with the audit
Written by one of us, not generated. It tells you what is wrong, what to do first, and what you can do yourself without paying anybody. It is lead generation and we are not pretending otherwise, but you get it without a call first.
