Computer Repair • Crawley

GBP Reclaimed, 5.0★, and a Local Footprint Tripled

A Crawley-based computer repair business that had lost control of its own Google Business Profile and was cannibalising itself with overlapping service pages. We reclaimed the profile, fully optimised it, extended the service area into two neighbouring towns, and fixed the on-site issues holding rankings back.

The Starting Position

Criddle Computer Care is a small computer repair business based in Crawley, West Sussex. Good service, loyal customers, but a digital presence that was actively working against the business. The most damaging issue: the Google Business Profile — the single most important asset for any local service business — was not under the owner’s control. Someone else, somewhere in the chain, held the keys. The business couldn’t update its own hours, post its own news, or respond to its own reviews.

The website wasn’t helping either. Two of the main service pages were targeting overlapping keyword clusters, splitting authority and confusing Google about which page should rank for which searches. The business serves Crawley but is geographically close to Horley and Horsham — both well within the catchment — yet had no on-site presence for either town. The eBay store the site referenced in its trust signals had been retired months earlier but the references hadn’t been removed.

What We Did

Google Business Profile Recovery

The first job was getting the GBP back under the owner’s control. We worked through Google’s ownership recovery process, verified the business at the registered address, and transferred control. Once recovered, we ran a full optimisation pass: complete service list, proper primary and secondary categories, business hours, address verification, geo-tagged photos, full Q&A section, and the start of a routine for owner-posted updates. The result is a 5.0★ profile that the business now controls — the live profile shows the recovery worked.

Location Page: Horley

Built a dedicated Horley location page at /computer-repair-horley/ — not the thin “[service] in [town]” template, but a real page with content specific to the Horley service area, travel/callout logistics, and how the existing Crawley operation reaches Horley customers. The page is indexed and competing for local searches in the town.

Location Page: Horsham

Same pattern for Horsham at /computer-repair-in-horsham/. Horsham is the larger of the two neighbouring towns and represents a meaningful share of the potential catchment. Dedicated page, dedicated content, dedicated keyword targeting.

Service-Page Cannibalisation Fixes

Two existing service pages were competing with each other for closely related search intents. We identified which page Google was already favouring, consolidated the overlapping content, repointed internal links to the canonical winner, and made the secondary page clearly distinct in its targeting. Result: cleaner signals, less keyword cannibalisation, and the strong page free to climb without its sibling pulling the other way.

Trust Signal Cleanup

The site was carrying references to an eBay store that had been retired. Trust signals only work when they’re current — a broken eBay link or an outdated “5,000 sales on eBay” claim works against the business, not for it. We removed every reference to the retired eBay store and replaced the trust signals with current, verifiable ones: the live GBP rating, the years in business, the geographic reach.

Full Tracking Stack

Deployed Google Tag Manager (GTM-MHGQBV8L) and Google Analytics 4 (G-D1L0DV73JD) via Site Kit, with three custom events firing on user interactions that actually matter:

  • phone_click — every tap on the phone number, on every page
  • email_click — captured via Click — Just Links
  • generate_lead — WPForms confirmation container fires the conversion event reliably

The business now knows which pages drive enquiries, which channels bring the leads, and which marketing effort is actually working — rather than guessing.

What the Site Looks Like Now

Coming out of the engagement, Criddle Computer Care has:

  • A 5.0★ Google Business Profile — fully owner-controlled, with current photos, complete service list, and active review responses
  • Three town catchment — Crawley as the home base, Horley and Horsham as named secondary service areas with dedicated location pages
  • Clean service-page architecture — no internal competition, no split signals, each page targeting a distinct intent
  • Current trust signals — nothing on the site pointing at retired products or broken external accounts
  • Measurable conversions — phone, email and form events all tracked through GTM into GA4

The structural foundation is now sound. Phase 2 is the ongoing work — review generation routine, regular GBP updates, monitoring the rankings on the Horley and Horsham pages as they bed in, and identifying the next service-area expansion when the existing two start producing consistent enquiries.

The Tools Behind the Work

  • GYWS Master Auditor — baseline audit identified the cannibalisation and the trust-signal issues
  • GYWS Rank Tracker — monitoring local rankings across all three towns with SerpAPI-driven position checks
  • Internal Link Audit Tool — used to repoint links during the cannibalisation cleanup
  • Schema Validator — verified every structured-data block before going live
  • Text String Finder — caught every remaining reference to the retired eBay store across the site, no manual scanning required

What’s Next

The recovery and foundation work is complete. The next phase is about building on it — establishing a consistent review-generation process so the GBP rating compounds, monitoring the Horley and Horsham pages as they accumulate ranking signal, and watching for the natural moment to extend into a third or fourth surrounding town. Once a small local business has the technical and local SEO basics genuinely in place, the trajectory tends to be steady rather than spectacular — but that’s exactly what a Crawley computer repair shop needs.
